- How to Pick the Right Music Distribution Service
- FAQ
Most artists pick their distributor based on a single YouTube recommendation or whoever shows up first in a Google search. That's how you end up locked into a pricing model that doesn't match how you actually release your music.
DistroKid works fine with a $24.99 a year, unlimited uploads, clean dashboard. But "good enough" and "right for you" are different things.
Promoting artists through SoundCampaign for 8 years, I’ve seen that the distributor that saves a ‘singles artist’ money will bleed a ‘one-album-a-year artist’ dry.
On this page, I've listed 10 Distrokid alternatives that covers most kinds of artists. I'm sure you'll find something best suited for you.

#1 - CD Baby: Best If You Hate Subscriptions

CD Baby has been distributing music since 1998 and has paid over $1 billion to independent artists. That's not a marketing line. That's 27 years of track record.
Pricing
You pay once per release. $9.99 for a single. $14.99 for an album. There’s no annual fee or subscription. Your music stays online forever, even if you never log in again.
Revenue share
You keep 91%. CD Baby takes 9%.
That 9% is the trade-off. Every other distributor on this list either charges zero commission with a subscription or takes 15-20% on a free plan. CD Baby sits in the middle: no subscription, but a permanent cut of every dollar you earn.
What you get
Distribution to 150+ platforms, free UPC and ISRC codes, YouTube Content ID monetization, publishing and rights registration with ASCAP, BMI, and SOCAN, physical distribution for CDs and vinyl, preferred partner status with Apple and Spotify, and weekly payouts.
Who this is for
Artists who release occasionally and don't want to worry about renewals. If you put out one album a year, paying $14.99 once beats $20-50 annually to keep your catalog alive.
The catch
If you release a lot of music, that 9% commission compounds. An artist earning $10,000 a year hands CD Baby $900. At that volume, a flat-fee subscription is cheaper.
#2 - TuneCore: Best for 100% Royalty Retention

TuneCore is owned by Believe, one of the biggest independent music companies in the world. Their pitch is simple: keep 100% of your distribution royalties.
Pricing
- Rising Artist: $24.99/year (unlimited releases)
- Breakout Artist: $44.99/year (more features, 2-day support)
- Professional: $54.99/year (full feature set, 1-day support, YouTube Content ID)
Apart from this, Tunecore also has a pay per release model that allows you to release across 150+ stores with 100% ownership and control.
This is what it looks like:
- Single: $24.99/year
- Album: $44.99/year
Revenue share
100% on streaming and downloads. But on the Rising and Breakout tiers, there's a 20% fee on earnings from TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
That 20% social media fee is the part most people skip past. If a big chunk of your income comes from TikTok or YouTube, you're not really keeping 100%.
What you get
Unlimited releases to 150+ stores, Spotify verified checkmark, Apple Music for Artists verification, Cover Art Creator, daily trend reports on Professional, and the TuneCore Accelerator program which generated over 10 billion streams in the first half of 2024 alone.
Who this is for
Artists who release frequently and want maximum control. The unlimited releases model rewards most active creators.
The catch
If you don't renew your annual subscription, TuneCore can pull your music from stores. Miss a payment and your catalog disappears.
#3 - Ditto Music: Best Budget Annual Subscription

Ditto claims artists like Ed Sheeran, Dave, Sam Smith, and Chance the Rapper in their hall of fame. They operate offices across 15 countries on 6 continents.
Pricing
- Starter: $19/year (1 artist, unlimited releases)
- Pro: $59/year (2 artists, expanded features)
- Labels: $89/year (3+ artists, scales with roster)
Revenue share: 100%. Zero commission on royalties across all plans.
What you get
Unlimited releases to 150+ platforms, automatic split royalty payments, free pre-save SmartLinks, in-depth analytics by store, playlist, demographics, and location. Instant Spotify verification. AI mastering tool. Promo Card Generator.
The Pro tier is where the real features live. This includes sync licensing for TV and movies, music publishing royalty collection, YouTube Content ID, timed releases, priority support, and Release Protection. That last one matters. If you cancel your Pro subscription, your music stays live. This is Ditto's direct answer to TuneCore's music-takedown problem.
Who this is for
Budget-conscious artists who want unlimited releases without a commission. At $14/year for Starter, it's the cheapest annual subscription on this list.
The catch
The starter plan could get better. Sync licensing, publishing, Content ID, and Release Protection all require the Pro plan at $59. You're paying nearly triple to access what actually differentiates Ditto.
#4 - Amuse: Best for Royalty Advances

Amuse does something most distributors won't. They give you money before your royalties arrive. Their Fast Forward program has paid out over $10 million in advances, from $10 to tens of thousands.
Pricing
- Artist: $23.99/year or $1.99/month (1 artist)
- Artist Plus: $39.99/year (2 artists)
- Professional: $59.99/year (3+ artists)
Revenue share
100% on all plans. But the base Artist plan charges a 15% fee on YouTube Content ID earnings and 15% on collaborator splits where the collaborator doesn't have an Amuse account.
What you get
Unlimited releases to all major streaming and social platforms, 24-hour ASAP release turnaround, AI-powered royalty advances, pre-saves, SmartLinks, scheduling, daily streaming insights, Spotify verified checkmark, YouTube Official Artist Channel, and a mobile app. Music stays live even if you downgrade or cancel.
Who this is for
Artists who need cash flow now. Streaming royalties take months to hit your bank account. Amuse's advance system bridges that gap.
The catch
Amuse killed their free tier. It's $23.99/year minimum now. The advances aren't gifts. They're recouped from future earnings. Cover song licensing costs an extra $14.99 per track.
#5 - LANDR: Best All-in-One Production Bundle

LANDR isn't just a distributor. It's a full music production suite. AI mastering, 2 million+ royalty-free samples, 70+ plugins (worth $2,000+), 200+ courses from Berklee and Melodics, collaboration tools, and distribution, all in one subscription.
Pricing
- Studio Essentials: from ~$8.25/month (annual billing)
- Studio Standard: $11.99/month (annual billing)
- Studio Pro: ~$15.99/month (annual billing)
Revenue share
100%. No commission on royalties. But if you cancel, LANDR starts collecting 15% on future royalties from releases distributed during your subscription.
What you get
Unlimited distribution to 150+ platforms, unlimited AI mastering, stem separation, DAW-quality video chat for collaboration, promo links, cover song licensing, 2 DAWs included (Cubase LE 15 and Ableton Live 12 Lite), and an Artist Network. Releases stay live forever.
Who this is for
Bedroom producers who need mastering and distribution in one place. Over $4,000 worth of tools for under $150 a year.
The catch
If you just want distribution, the production suite is overhead. AI mastering won't match a human engineer on critical releases. And of course, the moment you cancel your paid subscription plan with LANDR, your music will not be taken down from streaming platforms. Instead, your account switches to a 15% commission model, meaning LANDR will keep 15% of your future royalties while you keep 85%.
#6 - RouteNote: Best Truly Free Option

RouteNote gives you a real choice. Pay nothing and share revenue, or pay per release and keep everything.
Pricing
- Free: $0 upfront
- Premium: $10/single, $20/EP, $30/album, and $45/ex-album
- Renewal for Single/EP/Album/Ex-Album: $9.99/year
- All Access: Custom pricing (by invitation)
Revenue share
- Free plan: artist keeps 85%
- Premium: artist keeps 100%.
What you get
Distribution to 50+ platforms (95% market coverage), unlimited artists and uploads, YouTube Content ID, publishing administration, PUSH.fm marketing tools, and per-release flexibility to switch between Free and Premium.
Who this is for
Artists starting from zero with no budget. Genuinely free. No credit card needed. 2.4 million+ artists and 11.7 million+ tracks distributed.
The catch
That 15% adds up. $5,000/year in royalties means $750 to RouteNote. All Access requires an invitation.
#7 - UnitedMasters: Best for Brand Deals

UnitedMasters is backed by Alphabet and focuses on connecting independent artists with brands like NBA, State Farm, and American Eagle for sync deals.
Pricing
- DEBUT+: $19.99/year (unlimited releases, 100% royalties)
- SELECT: $59.99/year (brand/sync deals, career guidance)
- PARTNER: By invitation only (advances, global marketing)
Revenue share
100% on DSP royalties across all paid tiers.
What you get
Distribution to 50+ platforms, marketing tools, Blueprint AI career guidance, and brand partnership access on SELECT and PARTNER tiers.
Who this is for
Artists who want music in commercials, TV, and brand campaigns.
The catch
They only distribute to just over 50 platforms. You need the SELECT plan ($59.99/year) or a PARTNER invite to get real brand deals. The DEBUT+ plan is basically just distribution without any extra features.
#8 - Symphonic: Best for Wide Distribution Reach

Symphonic has been 100% independent since 2006. 200+ DSPs. Apple preferred partner. Human support.
Pricing
- Starter: $19.99/year (unlimited releases, 1 artist)
- Video: $25/video (one-time)
- Partner: Free entry, custom revenue split (by application)
Revenue share
Starter: 100% on DSPs, 70% on YouTube/TikTok/social UGC. Partner one is negotiated.
What you get
200+ DSPs, SplitShare for free royalty splitting, real-time TikTok analytics, Spotify Discovery Mode, SoundExchange collection, VEVO distribution, TransferTrack for catalog migration.
Who this is for
Artists wanting the widest reach and clean collaboration tools. Collaborators don't need to sign up to receive splits.
The catch
30% on UGC revenue is steep. Starter limits you to one primary artist.
#9 - ONErpm: Best for YouTube Monetization

ONErpm operates from 50+ offices across 6 continents with a massive YouTube multi-channel network. This is a full music company, not just a distributor.
Pricing
- Emerging: $0 (free, revenue share)
- Taking Off: Custom pricing
- Next Level: Custom pricing (full label support)
Revenue share for Emerging plan
- Digital: 80%
- YouTube/Content ID: 70%
- Non-YouTube video: 50%
- Neighboring rights: 85%
What you get
Unlimited audio/video uploads, free barcodes and ISRCs, Amplifier marketing tools, micro-sync licensing, YouTube channel management, and career-stage service tiers.
Who this is for
Creators whose income comes heavily from YouTube and video.
The catch
Revenue shares are steep (20-50% depending on platform). Taking Off and Next Level have zero public pricing.
#10 - iMusician: Best for European and Niche Genre Artists

Swiss-based, 500,000+ artists, six languages. No withholding taxes on payouts. A real financial edge for non-US artists.
Pricing
- AMPLIFY: $29/year (1 artist, unlimited releases, 0% commission)
- AMPLIFY+: $59/year (2 artists, splits, editorial pitching)
- AMPLIFY Pro: $299/year (unlimited artists, express delivery)
Revenue share
0% commission on all plans. 100% of streaming and download royalties.
What you get
200+ platforms (Beatport, Traxsource, Apple Music Classical), forever-online releases, Instant Mastering, editorial playlist pitching, Artist Hub with pre-save pages and smart links.
Who this is for
European artists, electronic producers, classical musicians, and anyone who benefits from Swiss-based tax advantages.
The catch
AMPLIFY Pro at $299/year is expensive. Splits and pitching require AMPLIFY+ minimum. Base plan: 1 artist, 1 mastering track/year.

The worst move is picking the cheapest option and realizing six months later that hidden fees, revenue shares, or missing features cost you more than a slightly pricier plan that actually matched how you work.
Look at how you release music. Look at where your money comes from. Match the model to your situation. Not someone else's.
FAQ
Does switching distributors mean I lose my streams?
Not necessarily. Most distributors can transfer your catalog, and tools like Symphonic's TransferTrack are built specifically for this. Keep your old releases live until the new ones are fully processed so there's no gap.
Can I use multiple distributors at the same time?
Not for the same release. Sending one song through two distributors creates duplicate listings and can get your music pulled. But you can use different distributors for different releases.
What happens to my music if I stop paying a subscription?
Depends on the distributor. TuneCore may pull your music. Ditto Pro's Release Protection keeps it live. iMusician and Amuse keep releases online forever. CD Baby has no subscription to cancel. LANDR starts charging 15% commission. Check the takedown policy before you commit.
Is 100% royalty retention always better than a revenue share?
No. If a subscription costs $50/year and you earn $100 in royalties, that's 50% going to distribution. A 15% revenue share on $100 is only $15. Run the numbers for your actual earnings before deciding.
Which distributor reaches the most stores?
Symphonic and iMusician both hit 200+ platforms. CD Baby, TuneCore, Ditto, and LANDR cover 150+. RouteNote and UnitedMasters cover 50+. More stores doesn't automatically mean more revenue, but it does mean more visibility in niche and regional markets.
Fundador y CEO de SoundCampaign
Soy Nadav.
